Dr. Jelena Vladikovic, NCTM, Kawai Artist Dr. Jelena Vladikovic's performing and teaching experience spans several decades, four universities, three countries, and two continents, where her students have consistently won top awards at regional, national, and international competitions, and many became successful musicians and educators. She holds a Bachelor of Music and two Master of Music degrees in piano performance, a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and pedagogy, and a designation as a National Certified Teacher of Music for piano. Kawai US/Canada inducted her into their prestigious Kawai Artist roster for her artistic and pedagogical achievements. The National Music Development Program and the Royal Conservatory Music recognized her as the Founding Teacher for her “contribution to establishing a national standard for developing musicians in the US." Royal Conservatory of Music has also awarded her a professional designation as a Certified Piano Teaching Specialist for all levels, from beginner to advanced. Additionally, Dr. Vladikovic has been awarded the Distinguished Scholar Award by Grand Canyon University. Scholarships for excellence took Dr. Vladikovic to the world’s most eminent teachers and schools: Evgeni Timakin, Moscow Central Music School, Moscow, Russia; Pavel Serbryakov, Rimsky-Korsakov Music Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia; Guido Agosti, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Italy; François Glorieux, Royal Music Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium, Robert Silverman, University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada; and Baruch Meir, ASU Herberger College’s School of Music, in Tempe, AZ. Dr. Vladikovic began professional concert career at age 15 after winning the most prestigious Yugoslav young artist piano competition. Since then, she won a number of national and international competitions. In 2007, she became the first woman to win the Washington International Piano Artist Competition. She performed in Europe, Canada and the US, and appeared on radio and television. Dr. Vladikovic taught piano at a secondary music school and at the collegiate level in Serbia and Canada, prior to arriving in Phoenix, AZ. She was the Music Director at the Delta Institute of the Arts in Vancouver, Canada, and later operated her own school, South Delta Conservatory of Music. She was a member of the College of Examiners for the Royal Conservatory of Music Program in Canada and the US and adjudicates music festivals and competitions. She is a member of local and international professional music teachers’ organizations, including MTNA, ASMTA, EVMTA, World Piano Teachers Association, American Music Society, and College Music Society, and has been given NAMM Foundation/CMS GenNext Fellow designation. Dr. Vladikovic is regularly invited to present at local, state, national, and international conferences, which include: MTNA, ASMTA, World Piano Teachers Association, The American Musicological Society and the Society for Music Theory, The Society for Ethnomusicology, The College Music Society International Conference, and she frequently conducts professional development seminars. She is the recipient of the Arizona State University Teaching Excellence Award and the ASU Disability Resource Center Award for her work with highly gifted students with learning differences, which is also the focus of her pioneering research and doctoral dissertation. In addition to seven years as a applied piano and ASU Piano Prep Program instructor, she is currently on the piano faculty at the Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, where she also serves as a Subject Matter Expert for piano and piano pedagogy, and teaches piano performance, piano pedagogy, piano literature, piano ensemble, and class piano. She maintains a small private studio, with students traveling weekly from across the state to study with her, in addition to online students in other states and in Canada.
